Welcome to Gotemba City in Shizuoka.
With our electric TukTuk, you can enjoy a unique, open-air drive while exploring the town and nearby sightseeing spots.

This page is for visitors from overseas who would like to drive a TukTuk and enjoy sightseeing in Japan.

1. Who can drive our TukTuk

You can drive our TukTuk only if you meet all of the following conditions:

  1) You have a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) that is recognized in Japan.

  2) You are able to use a translation app (on your own smartphone or ours) to communicate with our staff.

• Our staff speak Japanese only.
• All important explanations will be done using a translation app (text or voice translation).
If safe communication is difficult even with a translation app, we may refuse the rental on the same day.

2. Communication and support

 • Our staff do not speak English.
• We will communicate with you using a translation app (on our device or yours).
• Explanations may take some time because we will type and translate carefully.

If you are worried about communication, you can also contact us by e-mail in English before your visit.
We will reply using translation tools.

3.  Basic rules (summary)

Here are some of the most important rules.
For full legal details, please check the Rental Agreement (Yakkan) PDF.

 

• No drinking and driving.
If you drink alcohol on the rental day, you are not allowed to drive.
In this case, no refund will be made.

 

• No smoking inside the vehicle.
Smoking is not allowed in the TukTuk, including e-cigarettes and vaping.
If the vehicle is heavily soiled or smells of smoke, you may be charged a cleaning fee and a Non-Operation Charge (NOC).

 

• Children must meet our safety conditions.
• Only children who can sit by themselves and properly wear a seat belt may ride.
• Babies and toddlers who cannot sit unaided, or children riding on a lap or in a baby carrier, cannot ride.
• There is no child seat available for this vehicle.
• Anyone who wants to drive must:
• Show a valid driver’s licence / IDP, and
• Sign the rental documents in advance.
• For your safety, you must follow the staff’s instructions and rules at all times.


If you do not follow the rules or drive dangerously, we may stop your rental immediately.

4.  About the Rental Agreement (Yakkan)

 • The legally binding terms and conditions are written in Japanese (Rental Agreement / Yakkan).
• We also provide an English PDF version of the Rental Agreement for your reference.

It includes important rules such as no smoking and conditions for children’s seating and seat belt use.

If there is any difference between the English and Japanese versions, the Japanese version will be the official one.

5. Before you make a reservation

We recommend contacting us in advance if:


• You are not sure whether your International Driving Permit is valid in Japan
• You are worried about communication using translation apps
• You want to confirm safety or insurance details

 

In that case, please send us an e-mail in English before your visit.
We will answer using translation tools.

We want our overseas guests to enjoy sightseeing in Gotemba with our TukTuk
safely and with peace of mind.

If we share the rules and conditions clearly before you start,
you can relax and enjoy the drive.

Safety and Usage Conditions

Q. In what cases might rental be refused on the day?

A. Rental may be refused even on the day of use in the following cases:

  • If alcohol consumption or intoxication is suspected

  • If the customer fails to present a valid driver’s license or does not hold a valid license

  • If the company determines that the customer is under the influence of illegal drugs or similar substances

  • If the company determines that the customer cannot understand safety instructions in Japanese or English

  • If the actual driver differs from the one registered at the time of booking and license verification or explanation cannot be completed

  • If there is a history of dangerous driving, violation of the rental terms, failure to return the vehicle, or similar issues

 

In these cases, the rental is deemed unavailable due to customer-related reasons and will be treated as a same-day cancellation (100% charge).
No refunds will be provided.

Q. Can pregnant individuals use the rental service?

A. There is no legal prohibition against riding or driving while pregnant. However, considering factors such as vibration and physical strain when getting on and off the vehicle, we recommend refraining from use if you have any health concerns.

 

We ask that you consult with a physician in advance and use the service at your own discretion and responsibility.

If the company determines, based on physical condition or declarations, that safe operation or riding is difficult, the rental may be refused or discontinued, either before departure or during use.

Q. Can children ride?

A. Only children who meet all of the following conditions may ride:

  • Able to sit securely on their own

  • Able to properly wear a seat belt while the vehicle is in motion

 

Child seats cannot be installed.
Riding while being held in a baby carrier or seated on an adult’s lap is not permitted.

Parents or guardians are responsible for the child’s safety.
If the company determines that riding poses a safety risk, use may be refused or discontinued.

 

Q. Can I use the service if I am not feeling well?

A. Please refrain from use in the following situations:

  • Fever, severe fatigue, dizziness, nausea, or similar symptoms

  • Use of medication that causes strong drowsiness

  • Medical conditions that may make safe operation difficult

 

If the company determines that safe operation is not possible, the rental may be refused or discontinued, either before departure or during use.

Reservations and Cancellations

Q. Can I make a same-day reservation?

A. Same-day reservations are accepted only if availability permits.


For same-day use, please contact us by phone.
Online reservations are generally accepted up to the day before.

Q. What happens if I cancel?

A. Cancellation fees are as follows:

  • Up to 3 days before the rental date: Free cancellation (full refund)

  • 2 days before: 50% of the rental fee

  • Same day: 100% of the rental fee (no refund)

If rental cannot be provided due to reasons such as alcohol consumption, failure to carry a license, or inability to communicate, it will also be treated as a same-day customer cancellation (100%), with no refund.

If rental is cancelled due to company reasons or safety concerns such as typhoons or heavy rain, the full amount paid will be refunded.
However, no compensation will be provided for transportation costs, itinerary changes, or other secondary losses.

Items, Luggage, and Drivers on the Day

 

Q. Can you store my luggage?

A. We can store one item per person.

 

Stored items are kept in a secured back-of-house area accessible only to staff, with measures such as surveillance cameras and access logs.
Please manage valuables yourself.

Q. I am considering a purchase. Can I do a test ride?

A. For customers considering purchase, test rides within our premises are available.
 

Please contact us by phone or email and indicate that you wish to do a test ride.
We will arrange the date and time accordingly.

Q. What if I want to change drivers or have multiple drivers?

A. All potential drivers must present their driver’s license and complete a consent form.

 

Even if drivers are undecided at the time of booking, please bring the licenses of all individuals who may drive on the day.

If you wish to add a driver during use, please contact us by phone.
After license verification and completion of consent forms, the driver may be changed.
The driver’s name does not need to match the reservation holder.

Riding Area and Usage Restrictions

Q. Are there roads where riding is prohibited?

A. Roads where riding is prohibited by law, such as expressways, may not be used.

Accidents, Insurance, and Compensation

Q. What should I do if an accident occurs?

A. Regardless of severity, please follow these steps:

  1. Ensure safety and provide aid to any injured persons

  2. Report the accident to the police

  3. Contact the company immediately and follow instructions

The rental vehicles are not covered by vehicle damage insurance.
If the vehicle is damaged in an accident, repair costs are generally the customer’s responsibility.

Depending on the situation, a Non-Operation Charge (NOC) may also apply.

 

Q. What insurance coverage applies if the driver or passengers are injured?

A. The following insurance applies to our rental vehicles:

  • Bodily Injury Liability Insurance: Unlimited

  • Property Damage Liability Insurance: Unlimited

  • Passenger Injury Insurance: Covers driver and passengers

 

Main details of Passenger Injury Insurance:

  • Death benefit: JPY 5,000,000 per person

  • Permanent disability: Up to JPY 5,000,000 per person, depending on severity

  • Injury coverage:

    • Treatment up to 4 days: JPY 10,000 flat per person

    • Treatment of 5 days or more: JPY 100,000 / 300,000 / 500,000 / 1,000,000 per person, depending on injury

 

※ Whether insurance benefits are paid and the amount payable are determined by the insurance company based on the policy terms.

 

Q. Is damage to smartphones or luggage covered?

A. Damage to personal belongings—such as smartphones, bags, or cameras—
(for example, a smartphone falling from a holder while riding) is not covered by insurance.

 

Unless there is clear negligence on the part of the company, repair or replacement costs for personal belongings are the customer’s responsibility.

Q. What is the Non-Operation Charge (NOC)?

A. NOC is a business compensation fee charged when the vehicle cannot be used for rental due to accidents or violations of the rental terms (e.g., eating or smoking inside the vehicle, carrying pets, vomiting, or severe soiling), requiring repairs or special cleaning.

  • The amount is JPY ○○ per day × number of days the vehicle is out of service

  • It may be charged in addition to repair or cleaning costs

  • Under normal use, NOC does not apply​
